Before your guesses go wild let us enlighten you on the device that we are talking about. It is a MTG 1000 Multifunction Timegrapher.

MTG 1000 Multifunction Timegrapher is the latest model that is available in the market and can perform some really serious tasks, which are virtually beyond human’s scope and bounds. It is a timing machine, which helps a watchmaker or watch repairer to tune the performance of watch.

The MTG 1000 can measure the amplitude of the balance wheel. It can also measure the beat number, beat rate, beat error and beat amplitude. Much like its previous model, MTG 1000 automatically detects the beat number and immediately starts measuring, once the watch is kept on the microphone, which by the way, can be rotated in 6 different positions. However, you can also set the beat number manually if you want. It can also acoustically stimulate the watch beats.

The LCD display of this timing machine is controlled by a microprocessor and displays the beat rate and error numerically as well as graphically.

There are also many other models of timing machine available, which performs more or less the same job.
