Watch movements are literally the heart of your watch. Sometimes, if all else fails, you will need to replace your watch’s movement.
When the time comes to replace your watch’s movement, the most important question you need to answer is whether your watch has a quartz or mechanical movement. If it has a mechanical movement, then you’ll want to start your search with new mechanical movements (a quartz movement will not work). If you it has a quartz movement, then you’ll want to start your search with new quartz movements.
Let’s say that you need to get a new quartz movement and you start browsing through the dizzying number of options. Features that impact your decision will be movement size (e.g. 19mm), movement brand (e.g. Cartier), number of quartz jewels, existence and position of date feature. Generic quartz movements are significantly cheaper than name brands, and can often be as high quality (Swiss made).
If you’re looking for an affordable quartz movement, perhaps the most popular of all is the Ronda 751. In terms of getting the most bang for your buck, you can’t beat this one.
